Welcome
Welcome to the I-85 Extension Corridor Study Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) Website. At this site you will find information about a study and a collaborative process that has been set up by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to address issues about the I-85 Extension and its relationship with surrounding land uses and other state and national public lands, and the adjoining communities.

LATEST PROJECT NEWS

A preliminary draft of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), which contains information on the potential build alternatives, was submitted to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).  The potential build alternatives are combinations of segments shown at previous public involvement meetings and stretch from I-59/20 near Mississippi to I-65 in the vicinity of Montgomery.  The preliminary DEIS evaluates the potential build alternatives, as well as the No Build alternative, and makes no recommendations regarding a preferred alternative.  The project team is currently working to address comments received from ALDOT and FHWA.  Once these issues are resolved, the DEIS will be approved by the FHWA and circulated for agency and public review.  A notice of availability of the DEIS will be published in the Federal Register, and the complete DEIS will be available for download from the project website at www.i85extension.com.

Following approval of the DEIS by the FHWA, a series of Public Hearings will be conducted throughout the project study corridor.  Once the dates and locations for these meetings have been determined, advertisements providing information on the meetings will be published in local and regional newspapers throughout the project study corridor, as well as provided to other media outlets.  The dates and locations will also be provided on the website at www.i85extension.com.  The Public Hearings will be scheduled following FHWA approval of the DEIS.

Please continue to monitor the project website for the latest project news.
