Socio-Economic Studies

The University of Alabama, Center for Business and Economic Research is currently conducting socio-economic studies for the proposed I-85 Extension project.  A Black Belt Workshop and Socio-Economic Workshop were held on October 19 and 20, 2006, respectively.  These workshops were conducted for agencies and organizations interested in the potential impacts of the proposed project on the Black Belt region and economic development within the project study area.  The purpose of these workshops was inform attendees of the results of the September 2006 public meetings, to provide an update on the status of the I-85 Extension project, to share existing and preliminary projected socio-economic data, and to solicit views and concerns related to the potential impacts on the Black Belt, as well as economic development throughout the project study area.
